In recent years, Bert Danckaert has pointed his camera at walls and objects in neglected metropolitan areas. He photographed on five continents, including in the metropolises of Beijing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Mumbai, London and New York. He examines the interchangeability of urban spaces. To what extent have we sacrificed the world to globalisation and multinationals and how much is left of individual cultural identities? Bert Danckaert does not title his photographs but merely numbers them. His work abstracts the political, social and ecological complexity that we live with today.

Bert Danckaert studied photography at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (KASKA, Royal Academy of Fine Arts) and the Nationaal Hoger Instituut (NHISK, National Higher Institute for Fine Arts) in Antwerp. He has been active as a photographer since the mid 1990s and has shown his work in various solo and group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad.
Alongside his artistic practice, Danckaert writes about photography for several newspapers and magazines (mainly for ‹H›ART) and has worked as a freelance curator. He teaches photography at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASKA).
