Art and architecture photographer Filip Dujardin (1971) has been working since 2007 on a photographic series that combines humour and originality with references to art history. Fictions depicts fantasy buildings that appear to be ingeniously embedded in existing landscapes.
The artist uses digital photomontages of buildings in and around his hometown of Ghent to construct fictional structures and lanscapes that defy the laws of gravity - true castles in the air. It is only when the viewer examines the photographs more closely that the unlikeliness of the constructions and designs becomes clear. The images are an artistic, tongue-in-cheek commentary on contemporary architecture.
Fictions surprises the viewer with magnificent bridges, labyrinthine housing complexes and weird interiors that balance on the fine line between fiction and reality. His work is included in New York’s MOMA collection.
44 Gallery is a young art gallery for contemporary photography, including the medium of photography when employed in other visual arts.
The gallery exhibits and sells work by European photographers, with a special focus on Belgian photographers and an equal emphasis on upcoming talent and established professionals.
